BENEDICT LEONARD CALVERT
(1700-1732) Proprietary Governor of Maryland from 1727 to 1731. Died in 1732 while en route home to England. Scarce manuscript D.S. "Bend. Leond. Calvert" as Governor, 1p. oblong folio, [n.p.] Oct. 25, 1728 a deed for 1000 acres whose title was in dispute as no land certificate was on file. The name of the tract was "called Poplar Valley." Some toning and tears at folds from damp staining at right obscuring some text, some minor cockling, else good condition. Together with RICHARD TILGHMAN (1673-1739) Chancellor of Maryland (1721-1725). Manuscript D.S. 1p. folio on vellum, [n.p.] July 10, 1725 being a deed grated to Joseph Bell of Prince George County for 500 acres. With portion of wax seal separated from the document. Minor pin holes at fold intersections, light foxing, else very good. Together, two pieces.
