58. PIERRE G. T. BEAUREGARD (1818-1893) Confederate major general who initiated the attack on Fort Sumter that started the Civil War. He also led with distinction at First Bull Run, Shiloh, and in the defense of Richmond. A.D.S., a check made out and signed by Beauregard, New Orleans, Oct. 31, 1879 drawing on the Mutual National Bank to make a one hundred dollar payment to the bearer, undoubtedly himself.
