16. BATTLE OF LEXINGTON Engraving, "Battle of Lexington" (27 1/2" x 19") New York: Printed by C & A. Tiebout No 29 Gold Street. Jan. 1, 1798. Engraved by Cornelius Tiebout (1777-1832), an accomplished engraver of such subjects as "George Washington" (1798), "Thomas Jefferson, President of the United States" (1800), and Constitution (1813). Tiebout ended his life in Robert Owen's community of New Harmony, Indiana where he taught art from 1826 to his death. Some light soiling at bottom margin only slightly affecting titling, else extremely fine. One of the earlier views of this perennial subject of American historical art. Very bright and clean, a superb example.$2,500-3,500
