BATTLE OF CHANCELLORSVILLE MUSTER ROLL
A fine content war-date partly-printed D.S., 2pp. folio, Co. A, 149th New York Vols., Aquia Creek, May 12, 1863, signed by Oliver T. May and HENRY A. BARNUM (1833-1892), Union brigadier general and Medal of Honor recipient, dangerously wounded at Malvern Hill, and again while leading the charge of his regiment at the Battle of Lookout Mountain, wounded a third time at Peach Tree Creek, and finally led his brigade, first in Sherman's command, into the captured city of Savannah, along with the names of two men who died, one accidently, and one man who deserted but returned to the outfit. There are extensive records in the remarks pertaining to Chancellorsville, which read in part: ‘…On March 30th marched to Chancellorsville & encamped in the woods. May 1 moved out to the crossroads formed line of Battle & marched about 1 mile through the woods & retreated to our old camping ground of Apr. 30th. May 2nd lay in the trenches all day – Lieut. & men on picket have not once been heard from. May 3rd engaged in the fight of Chancellorsville…' It goes one to list the men who died. Tape repairs to the verso with some splits, otherwise very good.
