BATTLE OF BRITAIN: ME 110 RELIC
A metal section of a Messerschmitt 110 shot-down on Sept. 7, 1940. The relic, approx. 23 in. long x 12 in. wide, comprises a deformed portion of the aircraft's fuselage and exhibits all signs of battle damage. Bears label underneath reading: ‘This German Messerschmitt 119 was shot down at 5:15pm n the 7th September 1940 by Douglas Bader & S/LIEUT R. J. Cork of 242 Sqn. The Messerschmitt Nr 3185 was of 4/ZG2 and was escorting bomber aircraft on an attack on London. The crew Ltn. H.D. Abert & UFFR K. Scharf were killed. The aircraft crashed at Swan Lane, Downham Hall, in Wickford, Essex. Humberside Aircraft Preservation Society'. A small image of Douglas Bader is affixed above the label. Ex: RAF Scampton Heritage Centre.
