Description:

KEITH PARK (1892 - 1975) First World War flying ace and Second World War R.A.F. commander. Park took command of No. 11 Group RAF, responsible for the fighter defense of London and southeast England, in April 1940. He organized fighter patrols over France during the Dunkirk evacuation and in the Battle of Britain his command took the brunt of the Luftwaffe's air attacks. Flying his personalized Hawker Hurricane around his fighter airfields during the battle, Park gained a reputation as a shrewd tactician with an astute grasp of strategic issues and as a popular "hands-on" commander. Fine association partly-printed D.S. as Commander of 48 Squadron, 2pp. oblong 8vo., [n.p.], July 2, 1918, a report by JACK ELMER DRUMMOND (1897-1979) Canadian pilot and RAF ace, a captain in 48 Squadron with five kills and one out of control. Drummond submits a typed "Combats in the Air" report (unsigned by Drummond) reporting that he encountered nine Pfalz Scouts at 13,000 over Soyecourt. Engaging them with his Bristol Fighter, he destroys one aircraft at approx. 8:40 AM. Two files holes at left, else fine.
