Description:

Scarce Czech pilot's combat report from the Battle of Britain, 1p. legal folio, [n.p.], Sep. 18, 1940, marked "SECRET" and submitted by Sgt. Stanislav Plzak, this translation of his report is signed by a squadron officer. As a member of No. 19 Squadron, Plzak reports on the interception of enemy bombers over London on Sep. 18, 1940 at 1750. He states: "...When patrolling London we received message that enemy bombers were in front of us. We sighted them S.E. of London...delivered attack from the rear...He. 111 on which I delivered attack, broke away and went sharply down. I followed him and gave him a short burst from 50 yards. The port engine cut off. I attacked him again and the crew baled out (air gunner's parachute did not open) and aircraft crashed near Gillingham...". File hole at top margin which is a bit toned and torn, else very good. Plzak, a veteran of the RAF attempt to save France, would be killed in action. On the return from escorting Blenheim bombers which attacked Lille, his formation was attacked by Me109's from JG2 and JG26 near Calais. Plzak's aircraft was shot down and probably crashed into the English Channel. His body was never recovered.
