(BATTLE OF BRITAIN AIR COMBAT REPORT) JOHN COCK
JOHN COCK (1918–1988) Australian-born flying ace of the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War. He was credited with at least ten aerial victories. He flew Hawker Hurricane fighters in the Battle of France and the subsequent Battle of Britain. War-date D.S. as commanding officer, 87th Squadron, RAF, 1p. legal folio, [n.p.], May 19, 1940, a combat report on an air engagement. Cock describes encountering a lone Henschel at 8,000 feet over Le Cateau. He fires three bursts into the aircraft at which time the aircraft erupted in flames 'at which time the tail flew off and the E/A exploded, crashing in a field...' Signed at bottom in indelible pencil. Soiled at bit, else very good. RAF air combat reports from France are rare indeed!
