1065. CLARA BARTON (1821 - 1912) American nurse who tended the wounded in the Civil War and later founded the American Red Cross. Good content A.L.S. 4pp. 8vo., Glen Echo, Jan. 11, 1807 to the Secretary of the National First Aid Association. In part: "...I have not yet seen the other package of diplomas...our household runs a little more steadily. The hundreds came, ate, drank, said fine things and slipped away in the midnight gloom. The Chaplain of the House of Reps. was here and made a wonderful speech...I am being put in clay by an artist...People are so interested, and pleased with the reports of our work...I feel, every day, that I ought to be out explaining its virtues...". Very good. 300 - 400
