1789. CLARA BARTON (1821-1912) American nurse who tended the wounded in the Civil War and later founded the American Red Cross. Nice content A.L.S. on scarce illustrated Red Cross letterhead, 1p. 4to., Galveston, Oct. 12, 1900 to Mrs. Sealey. In part: "...My room is sweet with the perfume of roses, but sweeter still is the thought of the giver. My work-a-day rooms have been very busy since Mr. Barton left - with both his work and mine...we begin to get it straightened out, and I have little chance to think outside...If there is a meeting of the ladies at any time, and they would like me to meet with them...".
