244. PHINEAS T. BARNUM (1810 - 1891) American showman who opened his circus, "The Greatest Show On Earth", merged with James Bailey to form Barnum and Bailey Circus. Set of two different autobiographies, the first, "Struggles and Triumphs or 40 Years Recollections of P.T. Barnum", Warren Johnson & Co., Buffalo, NY, 1873, Author's Edition inscribed on the front free endpage: "To Wm. Edgar, Esq with compliments of the author P.T. Barnum" adding date "Feb. 25 1874". With the recipient's bookplate on the front paste-down. The inscription page is lightly foxed, the writing a bit light, spine worn but internally sound. The second "The Life of P.T. Barnum by Himself", Redfield, New York, 1855, 404pp. hardbound, including many engravings in the text with a frontispiece, unsigned. Moderate foxing to the endpapers, else very good. $400 - 600
