Interesting A.Ms. (unsigned), 17.. 8vo., titled "The Gallery of Women of the Century: A Vaudeville for M. Beaumarchais", largely untranslated but apparently a short satire. In part: "...I see the great orator, covered with kisses and flowers, and me, the great colorist, always the object of harshness, stands in awe, hardly knows...The art of provoking his anger, often leads to his favors...". Pierre-Augustin de Beaumarchais (1732-1799), was a theatrical writer best known for his Figaro plays, and it is likely that Barbaroux takes aim against Beaumarchais because of the latter's support of Louis X and XVI. Discoloration to cover with slight foxing, otherwise very good. $200 - 300
