Description:

BARACK H. OBAMA, JR.
(b. 1961) The 44th President of the United States, and the first African American to hold the office. His presidency is remembered for the Affordable Care Act (ACA or 'Obamacare'); the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act; the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010, and the killing of terrorist Osama bin Laden. Exceptionally rare A.L.S. AS PRESIDENT on one side of a 6.5 x 4.25 mint-green White House correspondence card, Washington, [n.d., ca. mid-September, 2011], written in response to a despairing Indianapolis lady's letter (copy included). In her letter, the woman mentions that her 52 year-old husband had lost his job two years earlier and had been unable to find a new job. As her government benefits expired, she and her husband were forced to depend on their savings, which were rapidly diminishing. Her health insurance costs were high, and she was denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition. She expresses her thanks 'Obamacare,' but still worries that without employment income she will be unable to continue paying for coverage. She begs the president to assist the unemployed in finding work and further relief. Obama responds, in full: 'Laurie - Thanks for the letter. We're going to keep working on the health care exchanges to help on the affordability issue, and our Jobs Bill provides strong incentives for companies to hire the long-term unemployed. We just need to keep pushing Congress! Barack Obama' Very fine, with White House transmittal envelope. The Trump Administration which followed Obama's worked desperately to dismantle Obama's health care plan, with some measure of success. Obama's job bills were successful to a degree, but narrow in scope.
