NATHANIEL P. BANKS (1816-1894) Union major general who defeated "Stonewall Jackson" in the battle of Kernstown. After the war he served as a congressman. Manuscript D.S. as Congressman, 1p. 4to., [n.p., Dec., 1860], a recommendation of a "Genl. Gordon" to serve as U.S. Marshal in a Massachusetts district. Very good, with a CDV photo of banks showing him three-quarter length, Wm. E. Abbott & Co., Boston Backstamp. Two pieces. $100-150
