Description:

BALDUR VON SCHIRACH
(1907 - 1974) Nazi leader of the Hitler Youth and Gauleiter of Vienna, sentenced at Nuremburg to twenty years for war crimes. Fine content and somewhat cryptic A.L.S. ‘Baldur', 6pp. small 8vo., [n.p.], July 23, 1968. In English on his imprinted correspondence card to ‘Ed', in part: ‘...smoking one of…Crooks soaked in rum and dipped in wine - one of the best cigars! I want to tell you how much I appreciate your kindness…The man I wrote you about the other day, one of…right hand of [Friedrich] Flick was irritated (humorously) when I made notes with the Opel ball pen. I told him about Bill. He said: what did this man say about the development of GM in Germany? I did not tell him anything about your miserable little plant and you shall hear nothing from me about his mini-cars, except that he is very satisfied, understand?...Between us two and the lamppost: I know that Opel sales are not the best at the moment. I have questioned more than a dozen people: why do you not drive an Opel? Answers: 1. Because of the uncomfortable seats 2. Because of the noise of the tire after one year's driving…'. He then asks for refills for the said Opel pen. Boldly penned and fine. FRIEDRICH FLICK (1883-1972) was a German industrialist and the first such to be tried for war crimes. He received eight years for using slave labor and collaborating with the SS. Von Schirach possibly refers to Steinbrinck or Kalatsch as Flick's ‘right hand': both were tried at Nuremberg with Flick as members of the 'Keppler Circle' accused of crimes against humanity.
