Description:

(BABE RUTH)
(1895 - 1948) Legendary American baseball star and Hall of Famer who hit 60 homer runs in 1927 and had a career total of 714. An unusual piece, a blank check from Ruth's bank account with the Bank of the Manhattan Company (at Kew Gardens) with his name "BABE RUTH" printed vertically in the left margin. The check dates from the early 1930s as Ruth was believed to have purchased a home in St. Albans, Queens for $8,000 at 114-07 175th St. in 1929. While also keeping an apartment on Riverside Drive in Manhattan, he apparently purchased this home as it was in close proximity to St. Albans Golf Course sparing him the rail journey back and forth to Manhattan. In pristine condition.
