Description:

B-29 BOMB RELEASE CONTROL
A fine relic from World War II, an "Intervelometer" taken from a B-29 bomber and used for bombing with multiple bombs or clusters of bombs. An Intervelometer provides a method for releasing a train with a predetermined number of bombs and with a predetermined interval between successive impacts. The Intervelometer is a metal box measuring 9" long x 5" tall x 5" wide, with two dials on top to control the release of the bombs. The first is the Interval Control Knob and Dial, labeled: "Interval between bombs = feet", while a Counter Knob and Dial informs the user that: "Pre-setting dial essential for time release" and directs him to: "Pre-set minimum of one minute before use in train". Additionally, there is a toggle marked: "Sel/Train", which selects the train switch. Accompanied by a photostat supplied by the collector from an unknown source but with "Restricted" printed at the top of the page explaining the use of the Intervelometer and how to operate it, including the caveat: "At least one minute prior to release, set train select switch at TRAIN and counter knob pointed at required number of bombs". Don't try this at home! Very good condition, but obviously we are not able to comment on its operation. From the collection of Dr. John Lattimer, noted militaria expert.
