Good collection of items related to the career of U.S. Army Air Corps staff sergeant Eli Jaffe, a B-25 radioman and gunner with the 310th Bombardment Group in the Mediterranean Theater. The group includes: a display of eight pieces of insignia and medals, including Jaffe's aircrew wings, Distinguished Unit Citation ribbon bar with oak cluster, Air Medal with oak cluster, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European""African""Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (with three stars), and World War II Victory Medal. These decorations are displayed together on a black velvet backing. They are accompanied by a partially-printed document, 1p. 4to., July 31, 1944, [n.p.], Jaffe's award citation for his Air Medal, noting that he received the award for: "...participating in aerial flight as radio gunner of a B-25 type aircraft during an attack upon a heavily defended concentration of enemy troops near Frascati, Italy on 31 May 1944..." This document is mounted in a wood frame, and shows cello tape at top and bottom edges, else very good. WITH: Jaffe's "Class A" uniform tunic, constructed of brown-green serge, showing a second Distinguished Unit Citation bar with oak cluster on the right-hand breast, with the ribbon bars for Jaffe's Air Medal with oak cluster, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European""African""Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal on the left-hand breast. The left-hand sleeve features a U.S. Army Air Corps patch at the shoulder, with sergeant first class rank chevrons, four overseas bars and two service bars below. The right-hand sleeve bears a Twelfth Air Force patch at the shoulder, with sergeant first class chevrons below. The tunic is size-stamped "36R" within the collar; no other markings are present. Shows some scattered moth nips, with some fading to the A.A.C. patch, else very good. The 310th Bombardment Group received two Distinguished Unit Citations, the first on Aug. 27th, 1944 for successfully bombing enemy marshaling yards at Benevento, Italy while fending off and destroying several attacking planes. The second was awarded on March 10, 1945, when the group bombed the railroad bridge at Ora, cutting a vital German supply line.
