Description:

[ Autographs ] (WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON) Important manuscript D.S. signed by Col. E. P. Games of the Kentucky Volunteers, 1p. 4to., "Head Quarters on board", Sept. 27, 1813 detailing the general orders for the day Harrison's troops landed in Canada: "The General intreats his brave troops to remember that they are the sons of sires whose fame is immortal, that they fight for the rights of their insulted country - Whilst their opponents combat for the unjust pretensions of a master - Kentuckians- Remember the river Raisin but remember it onlywhilst the victory is suspended. The revenge of a soldier cannot be gratified upon a fallen enemy." After the militia's landing, they quickly moved north with Harrison's army, decisively defeating BritishColonel Henry Procter's troops on the Thames River. This battle, combined with Perry's victory on Lake Eire on September 10, effectively ended the War of 1812 in the north. Harrison also refers to the tragic defeat of the same militia by Procter at the Raisin River in Michigan who captured 500 Kentucky militia and killed another400. Some loss to upper left and lower right corners not affecting text, otherwise in very good condition loosely mounted along the leftmargin. A truly historic piece!
