Frank Farmer writes his sister '...President Lincoln has proven his incompetency to discharge the duties of his position. his Emancipation Proclamation... is the most impolitical measure that could have been adapted The bill for raising Negro regiments... will do great injury... soldiers of the army have too much pride to be on an equal footing with negroes... a man may beopposed to slavery... and yet be unwilling to make the negro his equal... I don't suppose that the creator intended one race to be superior to the other but the negro on the American continent is regarded as an inferior being by the North as well as the South...'
