Description:

[ Autographs ] Union Soldier's Letter Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., Barcanisville, Jun. 28 [1863] A. A. Thomlinson writes a lady inOhio: "...I have plenty to eat, a new coat and a Colonel's commission.. My command here consists of 7 companies of infantry, one company of cavalry & 2 pieces of artillery. I am strongly fortified. 5000 of the enemy cannot get me away from here. Genl. Scammon can, however get me out by a few words... How great is the contrast between the peaceful days of boyhood and the present clangor and clash of arms. Can it be that man is made to thus destroy each other? Is it the willof god that they should blot out each other's earthly existence & wipeaway all trace of the peace that once was ours?..."
