[ Autographs ] Union Soldier's Letter Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 4to., Point of Rocks, Va., June 3, 1864 Simeon writes a lady friend: '...Beauregard has entrenched himself in front of us, and he makes night attacks and day attacks, sorties and charges of every kind ... the rebel authorities say we must be driven out of here... they lost several hundred in killed and wounded... 90 deserters came in to us and said secesh is played out... rebel officer came in under a flag of truce and demanded them to be given up... he tried by lighting all day and was finally killed....'he also describes cannon duels, action by gunboats, and much more in this clear, well-written letter.
