Description:

[ Autographs ] Union Homefront Letter A.L.S. 4pp. 8vo., Lowell, Maine, Jan. 13, 1862 Horace Dresser's brother writes him: "...I wouldrather have you in Penn. than in the army. Only think of the 12 regiment in Lowell. They had to skate 3 hours to keep them from freezing... The British are sending their troops into Halifax at the mouth of the St. John's River. They are fortifying Portland for them.. Grace from Chatham... was going to run guard [desert] and they run a bayonet into him and let his bowels all out so he died. What horridwork there is in this world! It is enough to make anyone's blood chill..'
