[ Autographs ] Thomas T. Munford Superb content A.L.S. 2pp. 4to., Uniontown, Al., Feb. 8, 1911 to a relative of Union General Romeyn B.Ayres 1825-1888 Munford describes his part at Appomattox on the last day of the war, in part: '...I was commanding Genl Fitz-Lee's Division of Cavalry and my position was on the extreme right of the line of battle... we cut through the enemy cavalry and occupied the road to Lynchburg and were not included by Genl Lee in the surrender.. [I understand] Gen I R. E. Lee went out to meet Gen. Grant ... in full dress uniform... Grant had ridden many miles, & Genl Lee had come direct from his Headquarters and maintained the dignity of his oflice and country by appearing in full uniform of which he was proud." More fine content! A few tiny edge tears and folds, otherwise verygood.
