[ Autographs ] Thomas T. Munford b. 1831 Confederate brigadier general who succeeded Turner Ashby under Jackson and was engaged in many of the decisive battles of the war, including Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, and Appomattox. Fine content A.L.S. 2pp. 4to. on his letterhead, Uniontown, Al., Feb. 22, 1911 Munford describes Robert E.Lee's dress at the surrender at Appomattox! In part: "...I am sure hewas in full dress uniform when he went to meet Genl Grant and his sash and sword belt would be a part conspicuous to be seen...' he also describes how Major A.R.H. Ransom, on Lee's staff, reportedly "..had the Secret Service money... and gave Genl. Fitz Lee & Genl Rossereach E2,500... I never saw or recd a cent...". Munford also makes mention of his capture of Union general Theodore Read and adds his opinion that Union generals Warren and Ayres had been "vilified by Sheridan" at their court martial over their conduct at Five Forks. Much fine content Slight edge wear, otherwise very good.
