Description:

[ Autographs ] Susan B. Anthony 1820-1906 American reformer active in suffrage, temperance and abolitionist movements and instrumental in obtaining women the right to vote. Important A.L.S. 5pp. 8vo., Huron, June 2, 1890 to Julia Nelson, President of the Minnesota Women's Christian Temperance Union written by Anthony in an effort tobolster the woman's confidence and participation in the movement. In part: '...I am up here to try to get the Farmers Alliance to endorse a promise to work for women's suffrage... Don't give up in despair. Itis too cruel that each and every one of us from outside the state is left to make our own way... rush around and find where you can do themost good... The General Secretary is so overworked managing you and Mrs. Hindman that he cannot possibly get out and send out the postersfor my county. What is needed is a good planning brain devoted to this campaign .....I am hoping they'll get to see the way to plan a legislative campaign by the time this month is through..." More political content, a very good letter. Moderate browning and brittle,a few folds starting, with some chipping in left margin away from text
