[ Autographs ] SERGEY STEPNIAK (1851 - 1895) Russian and revolutionary who took part in the assassination of the Chief of the political police, General Mezentov, in 1878. He left Russia in 1882 and settled in England, where he wrote The Career of a Nihilist. Fine collection of thirteen A.L.S.'s in English from Nov. 18, 1885 to May, 1890 largely to his publisher, Swan Sonnenschein, regarding the completion of Stepniaks' monumental work, The Russian Peasantry, TheirAgrarian Condition, Social Life and Religion (London, Sonnenschein, 1888). In very small part: "...In respect of my new work on Russian --the R. Peasantry -- I am quite prepared to make an arrangement at once..The copy I have makes about 60,000 words. I can deliver ready for print in two weeks notice. The remainder can be completed in one month..You will have a fresh book...Would you mind sending me the agreementto sign?...". Overall in very good condition, and deserving of further research.
