[ Autographs ] Samuel G. French 1818-1910 Confederate major gen eralwho fought under Johnston at Vicksburg and led a division Atlanta andFranklin. Good content A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Winter Park, Fl. May 19, 1894to Gen. Marcus Wright. French is unhappy with a article published by the Picayune (newspaper) and later published i the Southern Historical Society papers. he writes: " '..I have seen n notion of myreply from any one, except from one who it of such historical value that he sent it to the Count of Paris... that was unkind to put [Leonidas] Polk's & [John Bell] Hood's sins on me. Johnston nor Polk never once mentioned the subject to me after that night. In act no one seemed to some any thing about it then... Worthy of further research. Right and left margins are chipped affecting seven or eightwords of text, three letters of signature were smeared when signed byFrench, otherwise good condition.
