[ Autographs ] SAMUEL CHASE (1741 - 1811) Signer of the Declaration of Independence for Maryland, traveled with Franklin and Carroll to Canada in an attempt to secure that colony to join the rebellion, later appointed by Washington to the Supreme Court but impeached through the efforts of John Randolph. Scarce A.L.S. "Sam'l Chase", 1p.8vo., Annapolis, Jan. 24, 1772, in part: "...I have requested the [?],for several weeks, to buy Me a pocket Almanack for the present year which he has hitherto neglected. I beg the favor of you to send me one also a blank small memorandum book, & a Court Calendar...I do not receive your papers and book...they are left at my Coffee-House and taken away by some idle persons or other.
