[ Autographs ] Robert Anderson 1805-1871 Union brigadier general, the "Hero of Fort Sumter" who refused Confederate demands to surrender the fort and ultimately endured two days of bombardment before surrendering. Manuscript D.S. 1p. oblong 8vo., West Point, July 11, 1836 Anderson approves an itemized receipt for military equipment, including "Ten Caps, ten Plates, ten cannon, Forty-six Forage caps, Two sargeants Coats... axes, a garrison Flag, a Drum Head Snare...' and so on. Signed at conclusion: "R. Anderson It. Lieut. 3rd Artly. Comdg Det'm't". Two tiny chips in right margin, otherwise very good.
