[ Autographs ] ROBERT ANDERSON (1805 - 1871) Union brigadier general,the "Hero of Fort Sumter" who refused Confederate demands to surrender the fort and ultimately endured two days of bombardment before surrendering. A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., West Point, June 10, 1836. As First Lieutenant and an Instructor of Artillery at the Military Academy, Anderson sends his receipts for "Ordnance Stores rec'd at this Post, yesterday, per Boat...". Slight toning and a short tear at folds, generally very good.
