[ Autographs ] PIERRE CURIE (1859 -1909) French chemist who, with wife Marie, investigated radioactivity, and discovered radium and polonium. Awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics, 1903, and Chemistry, 1911. Scarce A.L.S. "P. Curie" 1p. small 8vo., Paris, Friday [1903], in French to fellow scientist, mathematician PAUL EMILE APPELL (1850- 1930), Dean of the Faculty of Sciences at the Sorbonne, arranging a meeting. In part: "....I have just seen M. Brillon and have arranged ameeting for Monday morning at 11 o'clock at his house -- 29 Rue Lauristan. If this time is convenient to you, I will come and pick youup by car on Monday morning at 10:30 at the Sorbonne, or if you preferat home...". The year of our letter, the Curies were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics with Alexandre Becquerel for their discovery of radioactivity. Boldly penned and signed, and additionallyaddressed and signed "Curie" on verso, in very good condition. Pierre Curie is rare in any form!
