Description:

[ Autographs ] Patrick F. Garrett 1850-1908 American frontier lawman who tracked down and killed Billy the Kid, he later organized the PatGarrett Rangers to put down cattle rustling in the Texas Panhandle. AL.S. "P R Garrett", 2pp. 4to. on Customs Service letterhead, El Paso, May 28, 1903 in pencil. A lonely Garrett writes his wife, in part: "..I have not had to make the trip to Mexico... it [is] almost impossible for me to come to the Ranch this week... I want to go to Mexico the 2d or 3d of June, will have to be in Springfield Ill., on the 9th... am going there to attend U.S. Court. May I expect to find you here when I get back from Mexico..." Garrett could have used a sharper pencil; some smudging to a few words, otherwise very good.
