[ Autographs ] (Mutiny on The Bounty) Excellent newspaper, The Gentleman's Magazine, London, May, 1790, 8vo., reporting on page 463-4 on the ill-fated mutiny against Capt. William Bligh and mentioning the chief mutineer, Fletcher Christian. The report details the vessel's mission to obtain bread-fruit trees in Tahiti and describes the arrest of the vessels officers and their being forced to sail in the Bounty's longboat: ''..the mutineers, after giving them a cheer, stood away, as they said, for [Tahiti]...' A lengthy description of Bligh's heroic 4,000 mile journey in the longboat is given, with further mention: "...the leader of the mutineers is named Fletcher Christian,- a man of respectable family and connections, and considered a good seaman... the command of the Bounty thus devolving upon him..." Disbound, fine condition.
