[ Autographs ] Louis Phillippe, Comte De Paris 1838-1894 Pretender to the French throne, head of the Legitimist Party, and a member of McClellan's staff. A.L.S. "Philippe, Comte de Paris", 4pp. 8vo., [At sea], Oct. 1, 1890 to a fellow general. The Count thanks his friend for giving him a parcel and letter prior to his sailing, the letter concerning political distortions of Ambrose Burnside's record. Interestingly, he adds that he is grateful for "the tardy justice which has been at last rendered to you. It must have been the first time since your restoration to your position that so many [Army of the Potomac veterans] had gathered together, and the loud cheers which greeted your rising was a mark of true sympathy..." In all likelihoodthis letter was sent to Gen. Fitz John Porter, who only a few years earlier had been returned to his rank following his trial for disobedience.
