[ Autographs ] Leonidas POLK 1806-1864 Confederate lieutenant generalwho was a preacher before the war, he led with distinction at Belmontand Shiloh and was killed by cannon fire at Kennesaw Mountain. War date endorsement signed "L. Polk' as Lieutenant General, Headquarters Army of the Tennessee, Aug. 20, 1863 The text of the endorsement is in an aide's hand, forwarding and approving the document for four days. Also signed by A.A.G. Kinlock Falconer. Removed from a larger document, mounted, very good.
