[ Autographs ] KENTUCKY SLAVERY LEGAL RULING D.S. 1p. folio, KentuckyCourt of Appeals, April 28, 1838, a copy of a ruling concerning the legal status of slaves as property, and how they were to be properly used, in part: "...we are...of the opinion that Prewitt held the slaves as a trustee, and there was no tender of the money due to him..he should be held responsible like a mortgage, in possession for only the reasonable annual value of the use of the slaves as they should have been used by a provident man...".
