[ Autographs ] John T. Morgan A.L.S. on Senate letterhead, 4pp. 4to., Washington, Dec. 31, 1878 to his close friend Col. Robert McKee. Morgan warmly applauds the man's difficult course and success and pledges his support to his friend, and writes a twelve line poem to his friend. In part: '...My friends are far away, dear Mc /No kindly face I see /And I sadly rue the day dear Mc / That I left you Bob McKee... ' Morgan concludes on a serious note: "...The people north are beginning to hunt about for excesses, or justification, rather, for the irregularities that we are falsely charged with by these people. he should furnish these fact to our friends in the North..." Dime sized hole in first page affects two words of text, with a clear tape repair to folds. Second page (with poem) is undamaged and fine.
