[ Autographs ] JOHN ROSS (1790-1866) American Indian chief of the Cherokees who served with Jackson against the Creeks, later resistingthe forced displacement of his tribe to Oklahoma, finally relenting and commenced his journey on the "Trail of Tears". Good content A.D.S.1p. oblong 8vo., "Executive Department" [n.p.], Oct. 31, 1856, an order to Lewis Ross, National Treasurer, to make a payment of E67.50 from the General School Fund to a "Teacher in the Male Seminary..." Small inkblot at center with tiny ink erosion hole thereat, trimmed abit at top and bottom, otherwise very good.
