[ Autographs ] JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (1767 - 1848) Sixth President of theUnited States, Secretary of State under Monroe who principally formulated the Monroe Doctrine. A.L.S 1p. 4to., Quincy, Mass., Nov. 16 1842, to a Thomas L. Dunnell, in part: "...I duly received your letter of 12 Sept. last, which I have further delayed answering, owingto the uncertainty whether it would be in my power to comply with the invitation to deliver a lecture before the Franklin Lyceum in Providence, previous to my departure for Washington...I am now enabledto say that...I will repair to Providence...and deliver the lecture asrequested...if...it will...meet the wishes of the Lyceum...".
