[ Autographs ] John L. Clem 1851-1937 "The Drummer Boy of Shiloh", Clem "enlisted" as a drummer at the ripe, old age of ten, captured a Confederate colonel at Chickamauga and was twice wounded at Atlanta. A.L.S. 1p. 4to., San Antonio, June 11, 1914 to a Marie Rice. Clem thanks the lady for sending a photograph and asks that she notify a senator that: "'..he is doing great work for the soldiers of all wars..' he adds: "...I miss Washington very much..." and tells the lady of his health slowly improving. Fine condition, with autograph transmittal envelope with his return address and "General Clem" in his hand at top.
