[ Autographs ] JOHN HANCOCK (1737 - 1793) American Revolutionary politician and first signer of the Declaration of Independence, President of the Continental Congress and two-time Governor of Massachusetts. Fine D.S. "J. Hancock" signed twice, 1p. oblong 8vo., Boston, June 7, 1772. A receipt for six pounds eight shillings and four cents received from Joseph Ashley "...by the hand of Mr. William Billings, to be endorsed on his note of bond, due to John Hancock, Esq..". Signed with holograph emendation "This receipt not yet approved"at bottom. Very good.
