[ Autographs ] JEAN-BAPTISTE DE ROCHAMBEAU (1725 - 1807) French marshall who commanded French forces sent to aid the Americans in theRevolutionary War. With Washington, he was essential in the defeat of Cornwallis at Yorktown. Good content A.L.S. 2pp. folio, Vendome, June 20, 1751 in French in which Rochambeau discusses the freeing of a nobleman who had accidentally killed another man while hunting. In part: "...The Lord of Brossart was incarcerated according to the court's order and when exiting his cell presented his explanations to me which were recorded in a statement I am honored to be sending to you enclosed herewith...The Lord of Chabot was paid off and all expenses cleared, and so the matter being consummated, what remains for me to do is to thank you humbly for entrusting me with the court's honor..." Very good condition.
