Intensely Southern in his sympathies, he wrote "Maryland My Maryland!" in reaction to hearing of the Baltimore mob resistanceto Union occupation. Autograph letter signed in full in the text, written by Randall as secretary to Congressman William H. Fleming 1816-1872 Fleming mentions that "James R. Randall" will copy several quotations and forward them to his correspondent. Fine.
