[ Autographs ] JAMES OTIS (1725 - 1783) American Revolutionary statesman who fought in the courts to uphold the rights of the colonists, and later fought British revenue laws in the Massachusetts legislature with Samuel Adams. Partly-printed D.S. filled-out mostly in his hand and signed three times on the verso "J. Otis" and "Otis", 1p. 4to., Boston, May 22, 1768 ordering of tailors Richard and Joseph Billings of Boston to pay a debt of 160 pounds to merchant Joshua Blanchard. Slight browning at margins and folds, otherwise very good condition.
