[ Autographs ] JAMES MADISON (1751 - 1836) Fourth President of the United States considered the "Father of the Constitution", he authored the Federalist papers and sponsored the Bill of Rights. Partly-printed D.S. as President, 1p. folio vellum, Washington, Aug. 23, 1816, a grant of one thousand acres of land in Ohio to ex- Revolutionary war Lieutenant Bartholemew Yates who served: "...in the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment..." Folds and light soiling engrossment a tad light, with a thin vertical stain along top fold. Signature remains quite acceptable, overall good condition.
