[ Autographs ] James B. Mcpherson 1828-1864 Union major general who fought in Grant's Tennessee campaigns, led the right wing at Vicksburg, and was killed in battle at Atlanta. Rare war-date A.L.S on both sides of a recruiting broadside, 1p. 8vo., Boston [n.d.] to Thomas Carroll. In part: "... The above notice will give you the principle facts in the case regarding promoting, &C. The selections for new commissioned officers are made by the Comdg. Officer of the Company... every some will be taken to select the best & most deserving...' Heavily soiled, with a soiled fold through signature, fold splits, tape repairs on verso and a newspaper clipping concerning McPherson's death attached. Sold strictly "as is", but of course guaranteed authentic.
