Gamble 1798-1864 Pro-Union Governor of Missouri who had a difficult time leading his splintered constituency preferring gradual emancipation and tolerating pro-Confederate sentiments. D.S. as Governor, 1p. oblong 4to., St. Louis, May 8, 1862 an appointment of an officer to the 13th Reg. Mo. Volunteers. About one inch trimmed on left side causing loss of ornate border and some text, damp stain in upper right and in right margin, signature not affected.
