[ Autographs ] GUSTAVE EIFFEL (1832 - 1923) French civil engineer whose construction of the Eiffel Tower proved his theories of the strength of metal framework in building construction. Good content A.LS. "G. Eiffel" 2pp. 8vo., Vevey, Switzerland, Aug. 27, 1906 in French to "My dear President" informing him that he had "...sent 50 copies ofa work apart from the remarkable speech that you gave at the Sun Festival. You summarized in a striking manner in the short pages all that could be said on the scientific applications of the Tower [Eiffel]. The most recent one, wireless telegraphy, promises to have agreat future, not only the Army but also the Navy will find the tower a substantial aid. I saw notably in the recent papers that a very complete installation was made at Porgnerollio, linking that naval station to the tower. I take this occasion to thank you again for yourvery friendly words..." Very light soiling, otherwise fine.
