Description:

[ Autographs ] GERMAN INVASION OF ENGLAND PLANNING MAPS A fine collection of maps and books distributed by German military intelligence in mid 1940, likely in preparation for the anticipated Invasion of England known as "Operation Sea Lion", consisting of four books of about 800 total pages and eight wall sized maps of England and its environs. The maps detail such critical military features as the British rail network, the power grid, locations of commercial and military radio stations, and the like. The four accompanying books offer pictures of key landmarks within Britain, as well as an evaluation of the suitability of various areas of Britain as possible staging points for the invasion. In the appendix, one book contains translations into English of such useful phrases as: "Where is the next tank?", "What is the name of this town?" and "Where is the next bridge?", as well as an explanation of the British currency system, leaving little doubt as to the purpose of these books. The original cardboard slipcase is quite worn, but the books and maps are in very good to fine condition.
